Dutch Elm Golf Club

  I have friends and co-workers that would spend their days off on the golf course. After back to back doubles at the restaurant the one thing they looked forward to was going about an hour north and playing 18 holes. The fresh air. The relaxation. The challenge. They craved it all.

  No golfer is me. My putt-putt game was never anything to boast about. Don't think I've played a game of putt-putt since '98. It was fun. But you would never find me on a real golf course. I chose to get my fresh air by bar-hopping on my days off.

  Considered a premier golf course of Southern Maine, Dutch Elm Golf Club is located in Portland, Maine. The course is vast and beautiful. They are closed for the time being due to the pandemic. If you find yourself in that part of the states and you know how to work the iron check them out. I'll be at the nearby pub.

DCR Coffee

  I have never been a coffee drinker, but have spent a good amount of time working around coffee because of my time working in restaurant service. In Washington, DC the brunch guests were serious about their coffee. But it was working breakfast and brunch shifts in New York where I witnessed true coffee savagery. Not from the guests, that's a book on its own.

  I had never worked at a place where the coffee service received so much attention. Everything had to be perfect. The bean. The grind. Measuring each batch on a scale. Maybe these are common practices in coffee shops but in a bustling NYC restaurant, I would expect coffee to take a backseat to food and alcohol. To be honest, everything received great attention because the owner wanted everything to be great.

  At this job I learned everything there was to know about Peet's Coffee and when we switched brands to Intelligentsia I learned everything about them too.

  It was years later during a trip to San Francisco that I saw my first Peet's Coffee stand in real life! I was geeking. I'm sure I have a picture of it somewhere..

  The name Peet's Coffee was iconic to me. It was finally more than just a name I had seen hundreds of times over on full bags of beans and then discarded empty bean bags.

  In Washington State a brand that has made a name for themselves is Dillanos Coffee Roasters based in Sumner, Washington. Their logo can be spotted in the local grocers around town. They do wholesale and have partnered with shops like local favorite Anthem Coffee to distribute their brew.

Catfish Derby

  The 2017 Catfish Derby sounds like a good time. I'm a city boy so I ain't never heard of a catfish derby. It's an annual event that takes place in several different states. The Huntington Oregon Catfish Derby has been running for over 30 years. A fun family friendly three day event that includes a flea market, bingo games, fishing, cook-off and much more.

  Due to current circumstances, I am sure there will be no 2020 Huntington Catfish Derby which is unfortunate for that community. I hope to travel to Oregon for the 2021 Derby.

Cornwell Quality Tools

  Cornwell Tools began in Ohio in 1919. Skilled blacksmith Eugene Cornwell started a shop where he mastered the production of tools such as chisels and screwdrivers. His ingenuity led him to experiment with different steels and heat treatments producing robust, stronger, more reliable tools.

  

  With industries such as automobile and aviation on the boom, the demand for servicing tools increased. 101 years later in 2020 Cornwell Tools remains a top mobile tool dealer across the states.

  Most Cornwell advertising merchandise is represented with their Iron Man logo introduced in the 1950's. This Hat is unique in that the logo is a simple large embroidered C. The red, white and blue colorway is very Americana also.
